Rental Assistance Program

Kodiak Island Housing Authority’s Rental Assistance Program allows you to select any rental you want in the Kodiak area. If accepted to the program, KIHA will pay a portion of your rent directly to the owner of the unit. The assistance amount is based on annual income and applicants must be Alaska Native or American Indian.

Qualifications

  • Proof of Alaska Native or American Indian heritage
  • Kodiak residency
  • Proof of income (must not exceed 80% of the Median Family Income for Kodiak)
  • Evidence of rent amount

Student Rental

Assistance Program

The Student Rental Assistance Program is similar to the Rental Assistance Program but for students who are enrolled full time at an institute of higher education (any type of college or trade school). Students are not limited to the Kodiak area when choosing a rental. If accepted to the program, KIHA will pay a portion of your rent directly to the owner of the unit. The assistance amount is based on annual income and applicants must be Alaska Native or American Indian.

Qualifications

  • Proof of Alaska Native or American Indian heritage
  • Resident on Kodiak Island for at least 6 months prior to applying
  • Evidence of enrollment as a full time student
  • Proof of income
  • Proof of school costs and Student Aid (if applicable)
  • Evidence of rent amount or student housing costs
  • A 2.0 GPA or higher for continued participation after the first year
