Kodiak Island Housing Authority has more than just affordable rentals, rental assistance, and elder housing. We also offer specialty programs. Some are ongoing and some are short-term due to funding availability. Current programs that provide unique assistance are listed below.
Homeowner Assistance Fund
The Homeowner Assistance Fund Program, or HAF Program, helps Alaska Native and American Indian homeowners in Kodiak who have been negatively affected by COVID-19 with eligible household expenses. This program is funded by U.S. Department of the Treasury via the American Rescue Plan Act enacted on March 11, 2021.
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in a federally-recognized American Indian or Alaska Native tribe
- Must live in the Kodiak region
- Applicant must own and occupy the property as their primary residence
- Must have experienced a Qualified Financial Hardship after January 21, 2020. (A reduction in income or an increase in living expenses due to COVID-19 pandemic.)
- Must income qualify. Homeowners who make 150% or less of Kodiak’s Area Median Income may qualify.
Weatherization & Renovation Program
Qualifications
- Must provide proof of enrollment in a federally-recognized American Indian or Alaska Native tribe
- Applicant must own and occupy the home as their primary residence.
- Must make 80% or less of the Area Median Income as established by HUD. (Applicants over the age of 62 whose income is 80% to 100% of the AMI may qualify.)
- Must agree to a deed of trust or other security for a period of 10 years if the work completed exceeds $15,000.
